What A1 is and why it matters
A1 is a document confirming that a worker is covered by the social security system of one EU country (here, Poland) while temporarily working in another (Germany). The employer is a Polish company; the work is done on sites in Germany.
Before you travel, ask the coordinator which company will employ you, what contract you sign, and whether A1 is issued before work starts.
Which documents are required
Requirements depend on the job and are always listed on its card. Current posts mention:
- Polish residence card (karta pobytu)
- Polish visa
- biometric passport with a PESEL number
- EU passport
- temporary protection status under §24 (for jobs with direct German employment)
How to compare pay
Net pay is what you receive. Gross is before tax and contributions, so you take home less. Piece rates (e.g. €4 per m² for two coats of paint) depend on your pace and the volume on site.
Compare monthly totals, not rates: hours per week × rate − housing − other deductions.
Housing and travel
Our jobs include every option: free housing and transport, housing at €150, €300 or €450 a month. The amount is usually deducted from pay. Ask how many people share a room and how you get to the site.
What to ask the coordinator before you go
- Is the job still open and when does it start
- Who the employer is and which contract you sign
- Is the rate net or gross, how often is pay made
- Hours per week and whether Saturdays are worked
- Housing cost and how you get to work
- Which workwear and tools you need to bring
